ALÉM TEJO rugs are made with natural fibres – wool, jute, and linen – and artisanal techniques that require attention to their context of use.
They should be used in dry, well-ventilated interiors, away from direct sources of humidity and protected from intense sunlight, which may alter fibre tones over time. Regular rotation of the rug helps distribute wear and preserve its original structure.
Maintenance varies by technique. Tufted rugs should be protected from localised pressure, such as heavy furniture or permanent marks. Hand-woven and flatweave rugs are light, breathable, and structurally stable, performing well when properly maintained. Hand-knotted rugs, dense and robust, perform well in areas of heavier use, provided the environment is dry and balanced. Rugs with jute or linen are not recommended for humid or high-traffic areas, due to the greater sensitivity of these fibres.
